CIEF offers this wide array of certified continuing medical education (CME/CE) programs, and fosters collegial interaction to ensure that all its members are informed of the latest research and cutting-edge clinical treatments for ED.
Objectives
To achieve its mission, CIEF works closely with a multidisciplinary steering committee, as well as its members, to identify and respond to the evolving educational needs of all healthcare practitioners concerned with ED therapy.
To this end, CIEF engages in activities that will:
Create greater awareness of erectile dysfunction (ED) as a significant medical condition affecting the total health of patients and their partners |
Correlate the presence of ED with endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease |
Review the physiology of male sexual arousal and penile erection, and examine the pathophysiology of ED |
Discuss the role of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors in the treatment of ED and review efficacy outcome measurements from published clinical trials |
Differentiate the pharmacokinetic properties of the 3 PDE5 inhibitors, including onset of action, half-life, and duration of responsiveness in broad patient populations |
Assess safety profiles of the PDE5 inhibitors, such as drug and food interactions, hemodynamic effects, and tolerability, and convey that adverse events are generally mild to moderate and transient |
Provide strategies and tools to enable practitioners to overcome communication barriers and counsel patients and their partners about
restoring erectile function and reestablishing sexual intimacy |
